CAM documentation

I'm looking at porting a linux program that uses their generic cdrom 
routines to basically pass through commands to the cd. From what I gather, 
the way to do this in FreeBSD is using CAM and possibly ATAPICAM. However, 
I can't find much documentation on the CAM system other than the man pages 
and the code for camcontrol. Is there any in-depth API documentation 
available?
