noise with esd after a day

Hello,

I have a system usually runs all the time. It uses esd in order to
allow multiple applications to use sound. I have tried FreeBSD 4.9
as well as 5.2.1.
After one day (or night) sound played via esd has a strange noise
which occurs every 2 seconds or so.
If the same sound is played bypassing esd this noise is not heard.
The two attached files should demonstrate the difference.
Where does that noise come from? How can it be eliminated?
